When moving to the coastal region of southeastern
North Carolina, many consider living in a waterfront community. Homes in
our area may be built on the white sands of our beaches or the tranquil waters of
the Intracoastal Waterway. Perhaps the idea of living on the Cape Fear River is
more appealing. Our area also has a multitude of homes located on the marshy sounds.
Waterfront living is a relaxing lifestyle centered around our gorgeous coastline
and all its amenities.
Besides geographically, the different waterfront areas of the Cape Fear region are
unique in their own respect. Beachfront homes by definition are located on the sand
or dunes on the Atlantic Ocean. The second, third and fourth row homes are usually
considered ocean view homes or Intracoastal view homes because they are located
on the interior land of the barrier islands. Another form of waterfront living is
the Intracoastal Waterway homes that are located flush to the seawall of the Waterway.
These homes usually have private boat slips for easy access to the water. The islands
of Coastal Carolina offer marina memberships, yacht clubs, and any other seaside
opportunity one might desire. Living near the ocean, you can expect to smell the
salt in the air and feel the sand under your feet.
Homes on the Cape Fear Riverfront of downtown Wilmington
are mostly historic and have been guarding the Port City since its founding. These
diverse homes can be over a hundred years old and offer distinct city living. Directly
across the Cape Fear River are other riverfront communities of newer construction
built over the years as Wilmington has
continued to grow. Historic Southport also
offers riverfront homes which sit on the mouth of the Cape Fear River.
The sound communities of Coastal Carolina offer views of lush marshes and winding
waterways. These scenic homes are usually situated amongst large live oaks dripping
with Spanish moss and backup to the weaving saw grass of the sound. These homes
are perfectly sited for wildlife viewing. They provide a natural environment away
from the hustle and bustle of the city life.
